Rock Charitable Fund Grant to Restore Stained Glass

The Rock Charitable Fund, administered by the Northern New York Community Foundation, has generously awarded a grant of $36,500 to Notre Dame Church in Ogdensburg. This grant will play a crucial role in supporting the restoration of the iconic transept stained glass window that overlooks Claxton Hepburn Hospital.

The parish has been working to restore the historic Horwood stained glass windows for several years and thanks to the generous donations of Robert J. Huot, Our Lady Ministry and other parishioners and friends, the parish has successfully raised funds for the restoration of 12 lower Horwood stained glass windows and safely removed three others for later restoration. These windows hold great historical and religious significance, as they were created in Ogdensburg and have been a part of the church since 1890. The restoration of these windows will not only protect them from future damage, but also preserve the city's religious and historical legacy. It will also create jobs for skilled artisans and attract tourists and art enthusiasts, bringing in revenue and enhancing the city's cultural appeal.

Moreover, the restoration project will increase community pride and involvement, as community members will support the restoration and strengthen their bond with their heritage. It will also allow parishioners to hold onto memories from the past, create new ones for future generations, and learn about God, faith, and the church.

We are grateful to City Historian Julie Madlin for her assistance in writing the grant and are excited to see the positive impact this restoration will have on our community. Thank you to the Northern New York Community Foundation and the Rock Charitable Fund for their support in preserving our historic Notre Dame Church.
